Music for Eastertide 2020

Dear Song Leaders and Voces Populi,

Here are our musical selections for Eastertide of 2020

Our gathering song will be the Kiev Alleluia.

Our candle-lighting song will be The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation.

For the bread and wine, we’ll use the Festive Table Acclamation.

Our post-cleanup regathering song will be the Duncan Alleluia.

And our final hymn will be Now the Green Blade Rises. After a few weeks, we’ll switch to Jesus Christ Is Risen Today.

Thank you for inviting our community into singing with God’s pleasure!

Christian’s Sermon for Ash Wednesday

Christian’s Sermon for Ash Wednesday

The first couple of minutes are not recorded, but Christian has just described how at 8, he thought he’d be helpful and took out the tractor plow to clear snow and ran it off the driveway, then went back to get the car and chain to pull it out. We join the story there…

Music for Lent 2020

Lent is the time when we wander in the wilderness together, and find still quiet spaces to listen for the voice of God. Everything gets a little more spare, our music included.

Gathering Song

I Am Here in the Heart of God

Candle Lighting Song

John Bell Kyrie

A Kyrie Eleison, which means, “Lord, Have Mercy.”  This Kyrie is from the Iona Community in Scotland.  Remember to teach the words . . .

Kyrie eleison
Christe eleison
Kyrie eleison

and provide the English translation . . .

Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy
Lord have mercy

Table Acclamation

Lent Table Acclamation

This is simple and spare.  Please note that the words in this year’s script are a bit different.

Regathering Song

What We Need Is Here

This was written by the students of the Episcopal Student Group at MIT. It’s a lovely setting of the first line of the poem by Wendall Berry.

Final Hymn

Bread for the Journey

This is by Bret Hesla, a singer/songwriter from Minnesota and leader of Minnesota Community Sings.

I Am Here in the Heart of God

“I Am Here in the Heart of God” is a chant by New Thought song leader and composer Erin McGaughan and arranged into call and echo by Chanda Rule, who also added several verses to the original.

Here is a link to a video of Chanda leading this song.  Note that the song changes key, always moving up a half-step between verses.  For that reason, this is done without a shruti box.

Lyrics:

I am here in the heart of God
God is here in the heart of me
Like the wave in the water and the water in the wave
I am here in the heart of God

I am here in the breath of God
God is here in the breath of me
Like the wind in the springtime and the springtime in the wind
I am here in the breath of God

I am here in the soul of God
God is here in the soul of me
Like the flame in the fire and the fire in the flame
I am here in the soul of God

I am here in the mind of God
God is here in the mind of me
Like the earth in my body and my body in the earth
Like the flame in the fire and the fire in the flame
Like the wind in the springtime and the springtime in the wind
Like the wave in the water and the water in the wave
I am here in the heart of God
