{"id":1017,"date":"2011-11-11T11:53:08","date_gmt":"2011-11-11T16:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stlydias.org\/blog\/?p=1017"},"modified":"2011-11-11T11:53:08","modified_gmt":"2011-11-11T16:53:08","slug":"milk-and-honey-bread-with-creme-fraiche","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/2011\/11\/milk-and-honey-bread-with-creme-fraiche\/","title":{"rendered":"Milk and Honey Bread with Creme Fraiche"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Charlotte baked this bread as part of our baptism ritual last Sunday, for a new take on the old church tradition of having the newly baptized serve milk and honey (a food traditionally served to infants) to the gathered after the washing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bread:<\/p>\n<p>1 c. milk<br \/>\n2\/3 c. honey<br \/>\n1\/4 c. butter<br \/>\n2 eggs<br \/>\n1 1\/2 c. white flour<br \/>\n1 c. whole wheat flour<br \/>\n1 tbsp. baking powder<br \/>\n1 tsp. salt<br \/>\n1\/2 c. toasted wheat germ<br \/>\n1 c. walnut halves or chunks<\/p>\n<p>Creme fraiche glaze:<br \/>\n2 cups creme fraiche<br \/>\nhoney, 3 tablespoons or to taste<br \/>\nDirections for bread:<\/p>\n<p>Heat the milk and honey together until the honey is dissolved, then\u00a0stir in the butter. When the milk and honey mixture is somewhat\u00a0cooled, beat in the eggs. \u00a0Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the wheat germ\u00a0and gradually stir the dry mixture into the liquid. Stir in the\u00a0walnuts, mix well, and turn into a buttered loaf pan or flat pan. Bake at 325\u00a0degrees for 30 min. to an 1 hour (depending on oven and pan used).<\/p>\n<p>A sweet bread for real honey fanciers. May be served with cream cheese\u00a0at tea time.<\/p>\n<p>(Or, if not cream cheese then&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>Directions for creme fraiche glaze:<br \/>\nAdd creme fraiche and honey to food processor, whip only until honey\u00a0is mixed.
