{"id":126,"date":"2010-08-26T13:11:09","date_gmt":"2010-08-26T17:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stlydias.org\/blog\/?p=126"},"modified":"2010-08-26T13:12:37","modified_gmt":"2010-08-26T17:12:37","slug":"explorers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/2010\/08\/explorers\/","title":{"rendered":"Explorers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Charles Simic<\/p>\n<p>They arrive inside<br \/>\nThe object at evening,<br \/>\nThere&#8217;s no one to greet them.<\/p>\n<p>The lamps they carry<br \/>\nCast their shadows<br \/>\nBack into their own minds.<\/p>\n<p>They write in their journals:<\/p>\n<p>The sky and the earth<br \/>\nAre of the same impenetrable color.<br \/>\nIf there are rivers and lakes,<br \/>\nThey must be under the ground.<br \/>\nOf the marvels we sought, no trace.<br \/>\nOf the strange new stars, nothing.<br \/>\nThere&#8217;s not even wind or dust,<br \/>\nSo we must conclude that someone<br \/>\nPassed recently with a broom&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>As they write, the new world<br \/>\nGradually stitches<br \/>\nIts black thread into them.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually nothing is left<br \/>\nExcept a low whisper<br \/>\nWhich might belong<br \/>\nEither to one of them<br \/>\nOr to someone who came before.<\/p>\n<p>It says: &#8220;I&#8217;m happy<br \/>\nWe are finally all here&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s make this our home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Read at St. Lydia&#8217;s on August 22<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Charles Simic They arrive inside The object at evening, There&#8217;s no one to greet them.
