{"id":2123,"date":"2013-03-08T13:05:02","date_gmt":"2013-03-08T18:05:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stlydias.org\/blog\/?p=2123"},"modified":"2013-03-08T13:05:02","modified_gmt":"2013-03-08T18:05:02","slug":"it-was-alive-though-differently","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/it-was-alive-though-differently\/","title":{"rendered":"It Was Alive, Though Differently"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>by Hannah Gamble<\/p>\n<p>It had a secret name<\/p><\/div>\n<div>which in later years came to mean<\/div>\n<div><em>I will continue to stand here.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div>It had a food mouth<\/div>\n<div>and a shrieking mouth.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Popular wisdom indicated<\/div>\n<div>that Its hands could heat stones<\/div>\n<div>and that a man could cook<\/div>\n<div>meat on those stones.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>That being said,<\/div>\n<div>It had a poverty hand<\/div>\n<div>and a riches hand.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>They were<\/div>\n<div>the same hand.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A little ways above the hands<\/div>\n<div>the mouths spoke together<\/div>\n<div>but for two<\/div>\n<div>different reasons,<\/div>\n<div>like the music was behaving<\/div>\n<div>but the orchestra was broken.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>*<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Even in less<\/div>\n<div>benevolent moments,<\/div>\n<div>It was known to use Its own<\/div>\n<div>body as a tent and as the gifts<\/div>\n<div>inside of the tent.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Early people said It had a mother hand<\/div>\n<div>and a father hand, and that together<\/div>\n<div>they made a clapping sound.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Its hands delivered the children<\/div>\n<div>from madness.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The hands saw the riverbank sliding<\/div>\n<div>into the river<\/div>\n<div>to make<\/div>\n<div>a more shallow river.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>They scooped the mud up.<\/div>\n<div>The hands were giving thanks.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>*<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The hands smelled like exodus.<\/div>\n<div>The hands were the law.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>One hand grew older, and the other<\/div>\n<div>hand younger.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>They said, fairly often,<\/div>\n<div><em>We\u2019d like to try that again.<\/em><\/div>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div>Both were restless<\/div>\n<div>and wanted rest.<\/div>\n<div><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div>One hand said,\u00a0<em>I will go where you go,<\/em><\/div>\n<div>while the other hand continued<\/div>\n<div>on alone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<em>Read at St. Lydia&#8217;s on March 4, 2013<\/em><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Hannah Gamble It had a secret name which in later years came to mean I will continue to stand here. \u00a0 It had a food mouth and a shrieking mouth.
