{"id":2510,"date":"2013-10-18T08:23:56","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T12:23:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stlydias.org\/blog\/?p=2510"},"modified":"2013-10-18T08:23:56","modified_gmt":"2013-10-18T12:23:56","slug":"zachs-sermon-on-psalm-137","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/2013\/10\/zachs-sermon-on-psalm-137\/","title":{"rendered":"Zach&#8217;s Sermon on Psalm 137"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zachary Walters, a Master of Divinity student at Union Seminary and an intern this year at St. Lydia&#8217;s, preached this sermon on Psalm 137 at Dinner Church on September 22.<\/p>\n<p>That \u201cGoing-Back-Home\u201d Feeling<\/p>\n<p>We all know what it feels like to go back home.<br \/>\nTo let out a deep breath,<br \/>\nand feel your whole brain relax.<br \/>\nAfter a long day of subways and sidewalks and carrying things and bumping people,<br \/>\nthe air just feels a little better, a little calmer, when you get back home.<br \/>\nI feel it when I set foot into my parent\u2019s house,<br \/>\nwhere I grew up,<br \/>\nand now, after seven years,<br \/>\nIf I was out of town,<br \/>\nI start to feel it when I get closer to that<br \/>\nfamiliar New York skyline.<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays, I feel it on Sunday evenings<br \/>\nwhen I first step into the Zen center.<br \/>\nI felt it as a child<br \/>\nin my grandmother\u2019s house especially.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s where we spent most holidays, my family.<br \/>\nWhen we all got together we numbered more than twenty,<br \/>\nand every time, at least once, we would gather around the piano,<br \/>\nand my grandmother would plink out a couple of chords everyone knew.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Waters of Babylon\u201d was one of them, a song based on this psalm.<br \/>\nPretty soon she got everyone singing,<br \/>\nwhether they knew the words or not.<br \/>\nMy grandmother is just that kind of woman.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>You can read the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/file\/d\/0Bw_7AQJczw5Gbm05b0puaWZnYmM\/edit?usp=sharing\">full text of Zach&#8217;s sermon here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Zachary Walters, a Master of Divinity student at Union Seminary and an intern this year at St. Lydia&#8217;s, preached this sermon on Psalm 137 at Dinner Church on September 22.
