{"id":2602,"date":"2013-12-22T11:25:16","date_gmt":"2013-12-22T16:25:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stlydias.org\/blog\/?p=2602"},"modified":"2020-12-26T16:54:18","modified_gmt":"2020-12-26T21:54:18","slug":"christmas-and-epiphany-songs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/2013\/12\/christmas-and-epiphany-songs\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas and Epiphany Songs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Squeezebox is a place for our Song Leaders, as well as congregants, to learn the songs we sing at St. Lydia\u2019s.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Song Leaders and all who sing, here is the music we&#8217;ll be singing at St. Lydia&#8217;s during the seasons of Christmas and Epiphany, that is, December 29 and 30, 2013, and January 5 and 6, 2014!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Opening Hymn<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll be singing the lovely Christmas hymn &#8220;What Child is This.&#8221; \u00a0We don&#8217;t have a recording of this yet, but you can hear the choir of King&#8217;s College, Cambridge, rock it, British style, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nwyvWQxoVhk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>, and see the sheet music <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/file\/d\/0Bw_7AQJczw5GcmxLRkp1RkJWTE0\/edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 Our version will be slightly more haunting, sung over the shruti box set to silver.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lamp Lighting Hymn<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For our Lamp Lighting Hymn, we&#8217;re dusting off an old favorite, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/The-Light-of-Christ-for-Lydias.m4a\">The Light of Christ Has Come Into The World<\/a>&#8221; by Donald Fishel. \u00a0It&#8217;s a sweet piece with two parts, one to teach to the congregation, and then one you can sing yourself over the top. \u00a0We&#8217;ll set the shruti box on silver for this one.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Table Acclamation<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll continue using the celebratory <a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Advent_Christmas-Table-Acclamation2.m4a\">Advent_Christmas Table Acclamation<\/a> Rachel wrote for Advent and Christmas, with the little dinging bell and the steps that take us in a simple step around the table.<\/p>\n<p>The dance steps are simple: \u00a0Step with the right foot, left behind, step with the right foot, and left foot back. \u00a0We&#8217;ll move together in a counterclockwise motion.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Prayer Song<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll sing a piece we learned in Advent, <a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/2013\/11\/music-for-advent-2013\/day-of-light-2\/\">&#8220;Day of Light, Day of Birth,&#8221;<\/a> by Anne Krentz Organ\u00a0for the Prayer Song. \u00a0Since we&#8217;ll be sitting at the table, you can simply teach the melody (part 1) to the group, then come in yourself with part 2.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Final Hymn<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On December 29 and 30, we&#8217;ll sing &#8220;It Came Upon the Midnight Clear.&#8221; \u00a0Once again, no recording for this one, but you can listen here to a lovely <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LKzEL7qvmpA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">organ version<\/a>. \u00a0Also, please note that there are two possible tunes that can be used for this hymn, and we&#8217;re using, well, the one that I linked to. \u00a0The sheet music may be found <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/0Bw_7AQJczw5GazJyZ0dzSUk5RW8\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On January 5 and 6, we&#8217;ll sing &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aAXyAXjrVM8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Songs of Thankfulness and Praise<\/a>!&#8221;
