{"id":2675,"date":"2014-03-03T12:17:10","date_gmt":"2014-03-03T17:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stlydias.org\/blog\/?p=2675"},"modified":"2014-03-06T18:25:44","modified_gmt":"2014-03-06T23:25:44","slug":"songs-for-lent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/2014\/03\/songs-for-lent\/","title":{"rendered":"Songs for Lent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Squeezebox is a place for our Song Leaders, as well as congregants, to learn the songs we sing at St. Lydia\u2019s. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Below you&#8217;ll find all the music you need for our observance of Lent at St. Lydia&#8217;s. \u00a0Lent is a season of preparation when we pare things down and strip things away in order to hear the story of Christ&#8217;s death and resurrection. \u00a0Our music for the season reflects that sense of simplicity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Anointing Song<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rather than gathering in song this season, we&#8217;ll be gathering with a chanted collect, then participating in an anointing, where each congregant will be marked with the sign of the cross in oil on their head or hands. \u00a0Our bodies are anointed for death as the woman at Bethany anointed Jesus&#8217;s body with her jar of oil. \u00a0During the anointing, we&#8217;ll sing &#8220;Receive O Earth&#8221; by Daniel Schwandt, a piece intended for a funeral.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Receive-O-Earth.m4a\">Click here<\/a>\u00a0to listen to the teaching recording (bonus points for those whose ears pick up Emily&#8217;s cat meowing in the background) and <a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Receive-O-Earth-DES.pdf\">here<\/a> for the sheet music.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Candlelighting Song<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As we process to the tables, we&#8217;ll sing &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Come-Light-the-Lamps-3-Part-Descant.m4a\">Come Light the Lamps<\/a>,&#8221; a simple piece by Emily Scott with two parts (or three if we&#8217;re really burning) and a solo descant. \u00a0I would suggest teaching Part 1 to half the group, keeping them singing, and then teaching the other half of the group in on Part 2. \u00a0Then have a &#8220;plant&#8221; to sing Part 3, and a soloist to sing the solo (or you could do it yourself if it feels in reach!)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Come-Light-the-Lamps-.pdf\">Click here <\/a> for the sheet music.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Table Acclamation<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll sing a simple <a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Lent-Table-Acclamation.m4a\">Lent Table Acclamation<\/a> for our Eucharistic Prayer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Prayer Song<\/span><\/p>\n<p>During Lent, we&#8217;ll sing the lovely <a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Iona-Kyrie.m4a\">Iona Kyrie<\/a> for our prayer song. \u00a0Kyrie Eleison means &#8220;Lord, Have Mercy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Final Hymn<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For our final hymn, we&#8217;ll sing &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/What-Wondrous-Love-Is-This.m4a\">What Wondrous Love Is This<\/a>,&#8221;
