{"id":279,"date":"2010-10-12T14:28:11","date_gmt":"2010-10-12T18:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stlydias.org\/blog\/?p=279"},"modified":"2010-10-12T14:28:50","modified_gmt":"2010-10-12T18:28:50","slug":"prophets-of-a-future-not-our-own","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/2010\/10\/prophets-of-a-future-not-our-own\/","title":{"rendered":"Prophets of a Future Not Our Own"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Oscar Romero<\/p>\n<p>It helps, now and then, to step back and take a long view.<\/p>\n<p>The kingdom is not only beyond our efforts,<br \/>\nit is even beyond our vision.<\/p>\n<p>We accomplish in our lifetime only a tiny fraction<br \/>\nof the magnificent enterprise that is God&#8217;s work.<br \/>\nNothing we do is complete, which is a way of saying<br \/>\nthat the kingdom always lies beyond us.<br \/>\nNo statement says all that could be said.<br \/>\nNo prayer fully expresses our faith.<br \/>\nNo confession brings perfection.<br \/>\nNo pastoral visit brings wholeness.<br \/>\nNo program accomplishes the church&#8217;s mission.<br \/>\nNo set of goals and objectives includes everything.<\/p>\n<p>This is what we are about.<br \/>\nWe plant the seeds that one day will grow.<br \/>\nWe water seeds already planted,<br \/>\nknowing that they hold future promise.<\/p>\n<p>We lay foundations that will need further development.<br \/>\nWe provide yeast that produces far beyond our capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation<br \/>\nin realizing that. This enables us to do something,<br \/>\nand to do it very well. It may be incomplete,<br \/>\nbut it is a beginning, a step along the way,<br \/>\nan opportunity for the Lord&#8217;s grace to enter and do the rest.<\/p>\n<p>We may never see the end results, but that is the difference<br \/>\nbetween the master builder and the worker.<\/p>\n<p>We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs.<br \/>\nWe are prophets of a future not our own.<br \/>\nAmen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<em>Read by Michael at St. Lydia&#8217;s on October 10<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Oscar Romero It helps, now and then, to step back and take a long view.
