{"id":2973,"date":"2015-02-18T16:21:39","date_gmt":"2015-02-18T21:21:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stlydias.org\/blog\/?p=2973"},"modified":"2015-02-27T14:19:40","modified_gmt":"2015-02-27T19:19:40","slug":"songs-for-lent-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/2015\/02\/songs-for-lent-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Songs for Lent, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This is a place for our Song Leaders, as well as congregants, to learn the songs we sing at St. Lydia\u2019s. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Below you&#8217;ll find all the music you need for our observance of Lent at St. Lydia&#8217;s. \u00a0Lent is a season of preparation when we pare things down and let what&#8217;s unnecessary fall away, in order to hear the story of Christ&#8217;s death and resurrection. \u00a0Our music for the season reflects that sense of simplicity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Anointing Song<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rather than gathering in song this season, we&#8217;ll be gathering with a chanted collect, then participating in an anointing, where each congregant will be marked with the sign of the cross in oil on their head or hands. \u00a0Our bodies are anointed for death as the woman at Bethany anointed Jesus&#8217;s body with her jar of oil. \u00a0During the anointing, we&#8217;ll sing &#8220;Receive O Earth&#8221; by Daniel Schwandt, a piece intended for a funeral.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Receive-O-Earth.m4a\">Click here<\/a>\u00a0to listen to the teaching recording (bonus points for those whose ears pick up Emily&#8217;s cat meowing in the background) and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Receive-O-Earth-DES.pdf\">here<\/a>\u00a0for the sheet music. \u00a0Pay special attention to the meter on this tune &#8212; it can be tricky!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Candlelighting Song<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As we process to the tables, we&#8217;ll sing &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/John-Bell-Kyrie.m4a\">John Bell Kyrie<\/a>,&#8221; which comes from us to the Iona Community in Scotland. \u00a0This is a simple call-and-response piece with a little overlap to spice things up. \u00a0In the recording, you&#8217;ll hear Emily singing the song leader&#8217;s part first, and then coming in almost immediately with the congregation&#8217;s part.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Table Acclamation<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll sing a simple\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Lent-Table-Acclamation.m4a\">Lent Table Acclamation<\/a>\u00a0for our Eucharistic Prayer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Prayer Song<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/2013\/03\/prayer-songs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Take your pick<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Offering Song<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll sing &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/WhatWeNeedIsHere.mp3\" target=\"_blank\">What We Need Is Here<\/a>&#8221; as our re-gathering song after clean up. \u00a0A simple way to remember that God provides us with what we need.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Final Hymn<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For our final hymn, we&#8217;ll sing &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/stlydiasliturgy.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/What-Wondrous-Love-Is-This.m4a\">What Wondrous Love Is This<\/a>,&#8221;
