And I too<br \/>\nbefore your eyes<\/p>\n<p>found footholds and climbed<br \/>\nto drink the cool water.<\/p>\n<p>The woman of that place, shading her eyes,<br \/>\nfrowned as she watched\u2014but not because<br \/>\nshe grudged the water,<\/p>\n<p>only because she was waiting<br \/>\nto see we drank our fill and were<br \/>\nrefreshed.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t say, don\u2019t say there is no water.<br \/>\nThat fountain is there among its scalloped<br \/>\ngreen and gray stones,<\/p>\n<p>it is still there and always there<br \/>\nwith its quiet song and strange power<br \/>\nto spring in us,<br \/>\nup and out through the rock.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<em>Read at St. Lydia&#8217;s on July 31<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Denise Levertov Don\u2019t say, don\u2019t say there is no water to solace the dryness at our hearts.
